Wat Ban Rai - Part 1

The Temple Compound and the Façade of the Elephant Temple

The entrance to the temple compound.

A live elephant next to the gate.

This relief shows the famous monk, Luang Pho Khun Parisottho,
who was born in the nearby village Ban Kut Phiman in 1923,
more than 90 years ago.

The Elephant Temple is surrounded by water,
because it is built on an island in the middle of a lake.

The top floor of the temple.

Construction of the temple lasted almost three years, from 2011 to 2013.

The façade of the temple is decorated with numerous statues,
polychrome mosaics and golden reliefs of different animals.

This building houses the VIP bathroom for men.
A similar building (not visible in this photo) houses the VIP bathroom for women.
