Mae Sai (1): The Gate of Siam

Mae Sai - ca. 60 km north of Chiang Rai - is the northernmost town of Thailand.
The Mae Sai River marks the border between Thailand and Burma (Myanmar).
Crossing the bridge you can walk or drive from one country to the other.


All traffic going to and from Thailand must pass through the gate of this blue building.

A small monument (a symbolic gate) is erected near the border with Burma (Myanmar).


The English text says:
"The northernmost of Thailand."
One word is missing. It should be:
"The northernmost point of Thailand."


The Mae Sai River marks the border between the two countries.
The bridge connects them.


The bridge connecting Thailand and Burma (Myanmar).
The town on the other side of the river is called Tachileik.


The sign on the other side of the river says:
"Republic of the Union of Myanmar."
