Charité (Season 3) (ARD) (2021)

Charité is a German historical drama which is inspired by real events. It is built around the most famous hospital in Berlin. So far there are three seasons:

** 2017 – Season 1 – six episodes – the story is set during the final years of the 19th century

** 2019 – Season 2 – six episodes – the story is set during the end of World War Two (1943-1945)

** 2021 – Season 3 – six episodes – the story is set in 1961 (the year in which the Berlin Wall was constructed)

Here is some basic information about season three:

** Director: Christine Hartmann

** Language: German

** Subtitles: German (ARD)

** Subtitles: English (Netflix)

** Run time: 6 x ca. 49 = ca. 294 minutes

The cast includes the following:

** Nina Gummich as Dr. Ella Wendt

** Max Wagner as Dr. Alexander Nowack

** Hildegard Schroedter as Gerda

** Uwe Preuss as Fritz Krug

** Nicholas Reinke as Lehmann

** Thimo Meitner as Wittenberg

** Fritz Hartwig as Dr Curt Bruncken

** Patricia Meeden as nurse Petra

** Nina Kunzendorf as Dr. Ingeborg Rapoport (1912-2017)

** Anatole Taubman as Professor Dr. Mitja Rapoport (1912-2004)

** Philipp Hochmair as Professor Dr. Otto Prokop (1921-2009)

** Uwe Ochsenknecht as Professor Dr. Helmut Kraatz (1902-1983)

As in seasons 1 and 2, the characters are a combination of real historical persons and fictional characters. The first eight characters on the chart above are fictional, while the remaining four characters are real historical persons.

I do not wish to spoil the viewing for anyone. Therefore, I am not going to reveal any details about what happens in season three of this drama. I will only say that the conflicts and problems covered in this season can be divided into two categories:

# 1. Conflicts and problems inside the hospital =

Medical issues

# 2. Conflicts and problems outside the hospital =

Political issues

All issues (medical and political) are well-chosen and highly relevant for a historical drama which takes place in Berlin in 1961 during the Cold War between east and west.

What do reviewers say about season three of this historical drama?

On IMDb it has a rating of 78 percent, which corresponds to a rating of almost four stars on Amazon.

On the German version of Amazon there are at the moment 484 ratings of this product. The average rating is 4.8 stars, which corresponds to a rating of 96 percent.

If you ask me, the former rating is too low, while the latter rating is more appropriate.

I want to go all the way to the top with this product. I think it deserves a rating of five stars (100 percent).
