Sand Sculptures in Hundested - part 2

Theme:
The Great Danes:
History, fiction and myths


A Free Denmark. This sculpture is a reference to the resistance movement that fought against the German occupation during World War Two.


The Hero: Knud Rasmussen.
The arctic explorer Knud Rasmussen was born in 1879 and died in 1933.
After his death, his house in Hundested was turned into a museum.
The sculpture is the work of Bouke Atema from Germany.


The Guardians of Denmark.
The most famous guardian is the legendary figure Holger Danske.
This sculpture is made by Eda Kaytan from Turkey.


To Be or Not to Be: a reference to the play "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare.
This sculpture is made by Radovan Zivny from the Check republic.


Best friends: the cartoon character Rasmus Klump and his friends.
This sculpture is made by Marielle Heesels from Holland and Michela Ciappini from Italy.


Gunner "Nu" Hansen.
The legendary sports reporter was born in 1905. He died in 1993.
This sculpture is made by Radovan Zivny.


Kim Larsen.
The famous rock musician was born in 1945.
This sculpture is made by Baldrick Buckle.


The Olsen Gang, a fictional trio of small time criminals.
The first of thirteen movies about the Olsen Gang was released in 1968.
This sculpture is made by Eda Kaytan.


Jorn Utzon and the Sydney Opera House.
The Danish architect Jorn Utzon was born in 1918. He died in 2008.
The Sydney Opera House (designed by him) was officially opened in 1973.


Simon Spies.
The famous and controversial millionaire was born in 1921. He died in 1984.


The Little Mermaind.
The fairytale about the little mermaid was first published in 1837.


H. C. Andersen (1805-1875).
He is the author of "The Little Mermaid" and many other fairytales.
