The famous Irish writer James Joyce and Nora Barnacle lived in Paris for twenty years: from 1920 to 1940.
Nora Barnacle was his partner in life since 1904 and since 1931 his wife. She was the mother of his children: Giorgio (born in 1905) and Lucia (born in 1907).
The family did not live in the same place for twenty years. They moved from place to place.
How many times did they move while they lived in Paris? They had nineteen different addresses in Paris!
Why did they move so often? In most cases it happened, because they could not afford to pay the rent, so they left and started over in a new location.
This had happened many times while James was a child, because his father could not afford to pay the rent.
As an adult, with a wife and two children, James continued the pattern he had experienced with his parents in Ireland.
