King: Man of Peace in a Time of War (2007)

King: Man of Peace in a Time of War is a documentary film which premiered in 2007.

The topic is the life and times of the famous American civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968).

Here is some basic information about this film:

** Editor: Kent Hagen

** Writer: Henry Stephens

** Narrator: Obba Babatunde

** Available on YouTube

** Run time: 56 minutes

This film includes a long interview with MLK which was shown on US television in November 1967, only six months before King was killed.

Several persons are interviewed in the film. Here are the names of the participants (listed in alphabetical order):

** Howard Henry Baker (1925-2014)

** Roger Aaron Brown (born 1949)

** Wren Brown (born 1964)

** Diahann Carroll (1935-2019)

** James Cotter

** Laurence Fishburne (born 1961)

** Hugh Hefner (1926-2017)

** Jesse Jackson (born 1941)

** Quincy Jones (born 1977)

** Eriq La Salle (born 1962)

** Matt Mixon (writer)

** Rosa Parks (1913-2005)

** Colin Powell (1937-2021)

** Charles Rangel (born 1930)

** Howard Kingsbury Smith (1914-2002)

** Ed Sulzbach (1940-2016)

** Rolanda Watts (born 1959)

** Troy Szebin (film director)

Two topics are covered in this film:

(1) The civil rights movement in the US

(2) The Vietnam War

In the television interview, the focus is on the Vietnam War, while the talking heads focus on the civil rights movement and the legacy of MLK.

What do reviewers say about this film?

On IMDb it has a rating of 76 per cent, which corresponds to 3.8 stars on Amazon.

On Amazon there are at the moment 22 ratings of this product, 15 with reviews.

The average rating is 3.7 stars which corresponds to a rating of 74 percent.

In my opinion, both ratings are too low. I want to offer more, but I cannot go all the way to the top. I think this film deserves a rating of four stars (80 percent).

PS. In 2011, a memorial monument for MLK, located in West Potomac Park next to the National Mall in Washington, DC, was opened to the public.

It has been the subject of numerous controversies. Not only while it was being planned and designed, but also after the official opening in 2011, when minor changes were made.

I would like to see a documentary film about the history and creation of this monument.
