Switzerland, October 2017 -- We are sailing on Lake Lucerne. We are sailing from Lucerne to Vitznau. The voyage takes about one hour.
A few minutes before the boat docks at the Vitznau pier, we pass a large white building: the Park Hotel in Vitznau, one of the most famous hotels in Switzerland. This is our destination. This is the reason why we are taking this journey.
The entrance is flanked by two statues: modern copies of two statues from ancient Greece or ancient Rome.
When we enter the lobby, there is a surprise. In the middle of the lobby a car is parked!
When we get closer, we can see what kind of car is parked in the lobby. It is a Rolls Royce!
We are told that the famous car company has just used the famous hotel to present the new model of the year 2017.
Apparently, the company had rented most of the hotel rooms for a few days to house company staff and members of the press during the ceremony.
We are not going to stay in this famous five-star hotel. It is too expensive for us. We are just here for a brief visit. We ask if it possible to look at a room. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They give us a tour of the hotel and show us several rooms.
Each room is actually a suite with a living room, a bedroom and a bathroom. There are suites of different sizes.
Obviously, the price depends on the size of the suite and the location - facing the lake or the mountain behind the hotel.
This picture shows the living room of a suite which is facing the lake.
From the balcony of this suite there is a nice view of the lake and the mountains on the other side of the lake.
This painting hangs on the wall in a corridor. It was painted in 1914. It shows what the Park Hotel looked like one hundred years ago.
In the foreground a table of the restaurant. In the background the boat which sails between Lucerne and Vitznau is passing the hotel.
PS. While reading some recent customer reviews of the hotel and the response of the manager, I learn that since May 2020 this place is run like a private guest house.
This means you must book a room to stay in the hotel or book a table at the restaurant.
A reservation must be made 1, 2 or 3 days before your arrival at the hotel.
An improvised visit is no longer possible. If you show up unannounced, you will not be allowed to enter the place.
