While this drama
is based on a true story, it is not a documentary film. It is a dramatized
version of events. Not everything happened exactly as shown here. But the basic
story is true.
Since this drama
is based on a true story, the basic facts are part of the public record. They
are not a secret. Therefore I could mention many of them here, but I am not
going to do that. I will not say much, because I do not wish to spoil the viewing
for anyone. I will only say this:
When we follow
this case, we can identify five different groups of people:
# 1. The suspect
who has certain rights and his lawyer who wants to defend his client.
# 2. The police
and the prosecution who are trying to build a case against the suspect.
# 3. Family and
friends of the victim who are directly affected by this case.
# 4. People who
know family and friends of the victim.
# 5. Media
reporters who cover the case.
When we follow
the case as it unfolds, step by step, we can see that the law is not always the
same as justice.
What do
reviewers say about this contemporary drama? Here are the results of two review
aggregators:
75 per cent =
IMDb
90 per cent =
Rotten Tomatoes
As you can see,
the general ratings are quite high. If you ask me, they are not high enough. I
want to go all the way to the top with this product. I think it deserves a
rating of five stars.
PS. The
following review is available online:
Lucy Mangan, “A
Confession review – a profoundly sad drama about suffering, strength and
justice,” The Guardian, 2 September 2019. This review offers 4 of 5 stars (a
rating of 80 per cent).
