Die Dasslers: Pioniere, Brüder und Rivalen - a miniseries in 2 parts - is a historical and biographical drama (based on a true story) about two brothers who founded a company which produces sport shoes which are famous all over the world. It was shown on German television (ARD) in 2016. Here is some basic information about it:
** English title: The Dasslers: Pioneers, Brothers and Rivals
** Directed by Cyrill Boss & Philipp Stennart
** Written by Cyrill Boss, Philipp Stennart & Chris Silber
** Soundtrack: German - no English subtitles
** Released on DVD in 2017
** Run time: 2 x 88 minutes = 176 minutes
The cast includes the following:
** Christian Friedel as Adi Dassler (1900-1978)
** Hanno Koffler as Rudi Dassler (1898-1974)
** Hannah Herzsprung as Friedl Dassler - married to Rudi
** Alina Levshin as Käthe Dassler - married to Adi
** Rafael Gareisen as Admin Dassler (1929-1990) - son of Rudi
** Oliver Konietzny as Horst Dassler (1936-1987) - son of Adi
** Christoph Maria Herbst as Josef Waitzer (1884-1966) - German minister of sport around 1930
** Aurel Manthei as Sepp Herberger (1897-1977) - German football coach
This drama tells the story of the Dassler brothers; at first they were close and worked well together; later they had a falling out and their company was divided into two separate companies. This is why there are two sport shoe companies in the small German town Herzogenaurach: Adidas founded by Adi and Puma founded by Rudi.
The story of the two brothers - their lives and their careers - is told very well in this drama. The time frame is 1922-1974.
This is not the first time this story has been presented on the small screen: A drama called Duell der Brüder was shown on German television (RTL) and released on DVD in 2016.
This drama (produced by ARD) is longer and more detailed. I think it is slightly better than the version produced by RTL. Therefore I think it deserves a rating of five stars.
PS. On the German version of Amazon there are at the moment more than 20 reviews of this product. The average rating is 4.6 stars.
